UTILA ISLAND - Utila is a small island west of Roatan. Still relatively unknown to U.S. tourism, it's popularity is strongest with European travelers. Tiny Utila already has twelve dive operations, and due to its affordability, hosts many Instructor Training Courses. While there are also a handful of small guest houses and backpacker style lodgings dotting Utila's one and only "main" street, the finest dedicated dive resort on this simple and diminutive island is Laguna Beach Resort.
LAGUNA BEACH RESORT - This is, far and away, the best resort on the island of Utila. Owned by two native Utilans, Troy & Edith Bodden, it is reported that they have already spent more than two million dollars developing this beautiful oceanfront property a mile or so outside of "town." The rooms are spacious individual cabanas, built on a narrow sandy Caye separating the ocean from a large saltwater lagoon. Both the dive shop and the communal areas are impressive in their design and quality of materials and construction.
TROPICAL STORM POLICY - Laguna Beach Resorts wants all of our guests to have a safe and worry free vacation. A named tropical disturbance, or meteorological event can create adverse sea conditions and adversely affect valuable dive time. This is why Laguna Beach Resort has developed a published Storm Policy, so guests can book with confidence. This policy will compensate guests who lose days of diving at Laguna Beach Resort as a result of a named meteorological disturbance. Any LBR guest whose diving is interrupted as a result of a named storm will receive a credit voucher based on the number of days of diving missed. If Laguna Beach Resort closes in advance due to a storm's predicted path and landfall as forecasted, guests will automatically receive a voucher for the total land and/or dive portion of their trip and any domestic air charter booked with Utila Air Service. These vouchers allow guests to return to Laguna Beach Resort within one year of the interrupted trip.
This Storm Policy is not a substitute for the purchase of a comprehensive Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance policy. All guests are strongly encouraged to purchase this policy as it provides financial protections beyond their resort stay, and can offer financial assistance for flights, interrupted travels, and cancellations for other covered reasons as well. It is best to purchase a Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance policy immediately after confirming your reservation. Please note: Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance cannot be purchased once a storm has been named. Laguna Beach Resort vouchers apply to passengers who do not receive compensation from their trip insurance carrier. This program is specifically for lost days at Laguna Beach Resort and is not issued when a guest is unable to get to Laguna Beach Resort due to transportation issues, whether as a result of a storm or any other conditions by which the resort is not affected.

"My daughter and I just got back from Utila, and I just wanted to tell you that our trip to Laguna Beach Resort couldn't have been more prefect. We loved it! The diving was amazing. Kate, our dive instructor/master went with us on every dive and took pleasure in pointing out all the little creatures that require an expert eye to see. And there were turtles, a spotted Eagle Ray, loads of moray eals, and other types of eals. The coral and sponges were gorgeous. And of course, so were the fish. I loved that the diving was wonderful at every depth. I felt well taken-care-of with the diving.
"Our boat captain, Wagner, also tended to us during every dive. He was funny and fun, and his 25 years experience really proved out when he dropped us right on top of two different whale sharks. The resort, itself was just what I love. It is very well put-together, everything built out of Honduras Mahogany-not fancy, but clean, comfortable, and in good repair. The food was really good with lots of variety. Sometimes the chef of the day would surprise us with a really special dessert. We did not get sick or uncomfortable at all. The pool was nice too. Overall the relaxed atmosphere, the friends we made, the professional staff and the fantastic scuba diving made it difficult to leave.

LODGING ROOMS - Laguna Beach Resort offers elegantly rustic waterfront bungalows. Each bungalow is nestled along a tranquil mangrove lagoon, the perfect setting for a view of Utila’s tropical sunset. Each room has a spacious bathroom with hot water shower, ceiling fans, air conditioning, and 110 volt current.
Individual King Room -- Each King Individual Bungalow has one king bed, bathroom and a private porch and pier. All bathrooms have showers. All rooms are air conditioned.
Duplex Room -- A Duplex Bungalow includes two separate lodging rooms under one roof, each with its own bathroom sharing a common wall, porch and pier. This type of accommodation has two double beds in each room with the exception of one duplex unit that has one king bed in each room. All bathrooms have showers. All rooms are air conditioned.
